GRAPHICS FOR G.I. JOE
G.I Joe, directed by Stephen Sommers, is a film with a very poor plot-
The CGI effects, although creative, with exciting peaks, left me and quite possibly many other viewers feeling like it was a lack luster effort to fully immerse us in the "fantasy." This isn't helped in the slighted by the cast of "random" characters and -quite frankly- poor acting. There is nothing is worse for a viewer to guess the scripted words before they come out of the actor's mouth. Let alone the whole plot before half way through the film.
On the up side of it, it manages to meet the demand of those who just enjoy action packed films and are not really bothered about plot, originality amongst other things. It plays to young comic book fans and game fanatics at heart.
This, unfortunately, is genre of films populating our screens. Although out of the bunch there are still good adaptations of the fantasy genre such as the 'Transformers' film, they are not even to carry the majority.
For example, the newest 'Terminator' film, worse than this film(if possible), in my opinion is single-handedly annihilating the concept of fantasy being better than reality. Leaving other more credible genres on the back shelf and worse still casting a very dark shadow on the whole fantasy genre- where box office ratings will begin to drop even quicker than the stock markets are right now.
Overall impact:
With this film and this genre in mind, lets face it.
Who wouldn't want to be a 'superhero' for the day?
Films play a bigger role when looked at in a wider sense, although they are mainly there for our entertainment, it is fair to say that we can not underestimate the impact they can have as well as the lasting impressions they can give.
They, at best, offer some escape from the 'not so ideal' lives we live- even if it is for just an hour or so.
But when the credits roll up and with it rolls the hopes and dreams and ideals with its desired theme tune, then we have to at least try and find these hopes and dreams for ourselves in the real world...and if we can share them with each other.
Starting right here.
Don't bother seeing the above film.
